Domestic violence is a pattern of assaulting and coercive behaviors, including physical, sexual, and psychological attacks, as well as economic coercion, that adults use to gain power and control over their intimate partners. It is the willful intimidation as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. Domestic violence can be linked to any socioeconomic, ethnicity, or race. Statistics show 25% of domestic violence victims are women and 11% are men. WAIH's commitment to support women affected will be the heart of our volunteer day.
Shelter Volunteer Day is WAIH’s privilege to connect with those touched by domestic violence. Women’s shelters provide temporary protection and support for those escaping this public health concern. Our goal is to provide firsthand assistance, skill building workshops, workplace resources, clothes and business attire and an opportunity to be heard without judgement.
October is Domestic Violence Month; we will be uniting to raise money for victims of domestic violence. Our walk-up Stone Mountain is symbolic of the hardship women who suffer from domestic violence face daily. This experience will allow us to make a conscious decision to raise awareness and financial support towards AWARENESS, EDUCATION & PREVENTION as it relates to domestic violence.
